Where We Are

Monte Argentario is one of the finest places in Italy for vacationers. After WWII the region remained
virtually unknown for nearly 20 years. It was during the 60’s that the area became popular in the wake of Italy's economic boom and went
through periods of consistent development. Although there has been some building, most of the areas remained untouched -- particularly in the rural part of Maremma, which is the serene area we choose for cycling. The region boasts remarkable scenery.

The promontory was inhabitated first by the Etruscans (see the Museo della città di Cosa, Ansedonia), and there is evidence that after the Punic Wars, a Roman family known as the gens Domitia controlled part of the area.

Later, the Spaniards fortified the two harbors in the 16th century, and built a considerable number of structures to control the Tyrrhenian Sea. These fortifications --
above all Forte Filippo (named after Philip II of Spain) and Forte Stella -- remain in good condition today, and are a popular spot for tourists.
